A woman devotee had suffered through a number of heartbreaks in trying to start and raise a family.

First there was a stillborn child, then a miscarriage.

When a child finally did make it into the world, she turned out to have a serious hearing problem.

The mother asked Gurudev, “Why have I had all these problems, Swamiji, in bringing children into the world?”

Swamiji replied, “God sends children like that to such homes where He knows they will be lovingly taken care of.”

When another mother asked a similar question, this time about a child who had not developed normally, Swamiji answered, Because God wants you to take care of her.”
