Unless it is scrutinised dispassionately its tricks are never fully discovered :

Image
1.You are kept waiting for a long time by some other persons, 2.You are insulted or abused for no reason,  3.Others fail in their duties towards you, and 4.You suffer a loss or bereavement. If none of these can disturb your peace of mind and you are indifferent to them, then you have won the struggle and achieved 50% self-control. God sends trails and troubles to strengthen our character. Greet them and test yourself. The mind has the knack of making the unwary aspirant confidently think himself its master, while it makes a hopeless fool of him. Its deceptions are subtle. You have heard the saying, “The Devil can quote scriptures for its purpose.” Similarly the mind can use a virtue to indulge in a vice. It has an inborn inclination to perversion. It can even take the support of a perfectly good principle seemingly to justify the most unprincipled sort of action. Unless it is scrutinised dispassionately its tricks are never fully discovered. Is there a need for a seeker to read the scriptures?

Image
As long as the seeker has this question, there is need for him/her to read and be guided by the scriptures. It is like asking, ‘Is there a need for a hungry person to eat’. Samartha Ramdasa ji says, “Once the goal is attained there is no need for sadhana”. First it is necessary to determine the goal and the means and then one should remain steadfast in the means adopted. Even after that there is a need to listen, read and reflect on the scriptures so as to remove doubts and obstacles in the way. After the experience of the Truth there is no need to do anything. In order to turn the mind towards higher contemplation and realization of the divine Self, a sense of detachment from the fascination for the world and its avenues of enjoyment is imperative. Such detachment has to be cultivated at the mental level. It cannot be obtained by mere physical retirement from the world but by maintaining a proper relationship with it. Great results are gained not merely because of ...

Sachchidananda :

Image
When Sri Aurobindo describes the merging of the individual consciousness into the cosmic consciousness, he is referring to a shift from the human to the divine standpoint. The divine standpoint is Sachchidananda, Existence-Consciousness-Bliss having the following characteristics: “It is one eternal Existence that we then are, one eternal Consciousness which sees its own works in us and others, one eternal Will or Force of that Consciousness which displays itself in infinite workings, one eternal Delight which has the joy of itself and all its workings,–itself stable, immutable, timeless, spaceless, supreme and itself still in the infinity of its workings, not changed by their variations, not broken up by their multiplicity, not increased or diminished by their ebbings and flowings in the seas of Time and Space, not confused by their apparent contrarieties or limited by their divinely-willed limitations. Sachchidananda is the unity of the many-sidedness of manifested things, th...

Thought is the foundation of all creation, Thought created everything around us . Once you inject a strong thought into your mind , then your actions and whole being will obey that thought. Swami Udit Chaithanya

Swami Saradanandaji's equanimity-

Image
Swami Saradanandaji Swamiji could be very severe on his brother disciples. During such times, no one dared go near Swamiji except Saradananda, whose steadiness and mental poise could freeze anybody's hot temper. Once Swamiji sent Saradananda to Calcutta on an errand. When he learned that it had not been done, he rebuked him with harsh language. Saradananda remained as motionless as a statue. When tea was served, he began to drink it as if nothing had happened. Disappointed, Swamiji commented: "Sharat's veins carry the blood of fish; it will never warm up." Observing that Saradananda was free from anger, Swamiji teased him at other times, "Your veins carry frog's blood, or the blood of sand fish." Swamiji knew that this noble even mindedness is necessary for the head of a monastic order. Once Holy Mother said: "I shall be able to live at Udbodhan as long as Sharat is there. I do not see anyone who can be responsible for me after that. Sharat ...

The Negative and Positive Methods of the Traditional Yoga of Knowledge :

Image
In order to shift the standpoint from the focus on the body-life-mind complex to which the ego-individuality normally attaches, to the divine standpoint that sees the body-life-mind complex as an instrument of its manifestation in space-time, the traditional Yoga of knowledge has developed both negative and positive methods. Sri Aurobindo observes: “The Self is an utter Being and pure existence of which all these things are becomings. From this knowledge we have to proceed; this knowledge we have to realise and make it the foundation of the inner and the outer life of the individual.” These are psychological focus themes that remind the seeker of what he is not, and then, of what he is. Sri Aurobindo describes the negative method: “The negative method is to say always ‘I am not the body’ so as to contradict and root out the false idea ‘I am the body,’ to concentrate on this knowledge and by renunciation of the attachment of the soul to the physical, get rid of the body-sense. ...

Sri Ramana Maharishi : Talks

Image
1. Longing for a tiny grain of pleasure, people toil so hard using the mind to plough the field of the five senses, but they never wish for the flood of Bliss which is the fruit that comes by ploughing the Heart, the Source of the mind, with [simple] Self-attention. Ah, what a wonder! 2. Just as the goat’s beard wanders and wags for nothing, people roam about merrily but in vain, doing Karmas for the fulfilment of their worldly desires, while despising the disciplines [followed by aspirants] which lead to eternal Moksha in Self. Ah, what a pitiable spectacle is the condition of these worldly people! 3. Only when the world’s allurement is lost will true Liberation be possible [and its allurement cannot be lost unless it is found to be unreal]. Hence, to try to foist reality upon this world is to be just like an infatuated lover who tries to foist chastity upon a prostitute. 4. Liberation is another name for you. It is always here and now with you. It has not to be won or ...
