#Invoke Newness With Power And Wisdom :
===========================================================================
Basant Panchami symbolizes new life and fresh beginnings. Today a decline in the quality of our life and the world makes us long for newness. Basant Panchami comes as a reminder that nature is cyclic. Like the cyclic pattern of four seasons -- spring, summer, autumn, winter -- there is a cyclic pattern of four yugas – Sat Yuga, Treta Yuga, Dwapar Yuga and Kali Yuga.
We are in Kali Yuga or Iron Age, created due to our consciousness of pain and aggression. The new world of Sat Yuga, Golden Age where peace, joy and prosperity reign, will be created when we shift to a consciousness of divinity.
To transform our consciousness, we need wisdom to know what qualities to strengthen, and what weaknesses to abandon. We also need power to implement the changes. So, wisdom and power are two tools to change ourselves and, thereby, change the world.
Goddess Saraswati is invoked on Basant Panchami since she embodies wisdom and power. As we venerate her, let us inculcate her qualities. Her radiant face and royal form are a reminder for us to be clean within, with purity in thoughts and intentions. Inner purity shines through our face. Purity begets royalty. Royalty shifts us from being takers to becoming givers: givers of peace, love and happiness. The goddess’ jewellery and garlands inspire us to decorate our soul with jewels of truth, compassion and bliss.
Saraswati’s vehicle is the swan. Its whiteness represents purity. Swan discerns milk from water, pearls from pebbles. We need to imbibe the power to discern pure from impure, truth from false, right from wrong. Accurate discernment leads to perfect decisions of the right karma.
The goddess is shown playing the veena and holding scriptures and rosary in her hands. Controlling strings of the veena reminds us to control our senses. In every situation we need to focus and play divine music, which means accurate karma irrespective of our situations. Scriptures signify study of spiritual knowledge and its inculcation, so our karmas align with spiritual principles. The rosary formed by stringing beads together, inspires us to live harmoniously.
Celebrated fervently, Basant Panchami upholds beautiful traditions of the havan, kite flying, sweets, and yellow mustard seeds. Havan is symbolic of sacrificing or burning our vices; flying kites is a reminder to remain connected to only one string – of God’s love and keep flying at the highest vibration of bliss, untouched by vibrations of situations; sweets inspire us to radiate good wishes and blessings in our actions and interactions; and tiny yellow mustard seeds remind us that we are souls, a tiny point of light.
Soul consciousness makes us egoless and viceless. Golden-yellow crops and blossoms signify prosperity of Sat Yuga. Yellow represents joy. So yellow flower and fruit offerings, yellow clothes and yellow dishes are reminders to be happy.
When we imbibe purity and royalty, decorate the soul with virtues, make right decisions, gain mastery over senses, respond right to situations, burn our vices, rise above negative influences, radiate blessings, and be soul conscious, we become egoless. That is when we create the power to invoke the divinity within. Once we achieve such a divine state, we create heaven on earth – Sat Yuga.
End.
