Unshakable Devotion! : Swami Chinmayananda
19/03/2019
An incident from Smt Leela Nambiar Amma, a pillar of the Mission, and a #founder Trustee of Central Chinmaya Mission Trust, who passed away peacefully earlier this week.
This story and excerpt from a #letter written to her by Gurudev is presented as a tribute to her undying #devotion to Lord Shri Krishna and Pujya Gurudev Swami Chinmayananda.
This is how Gurudev explained #Krsna to her in a letter:
“Blue is the color of the #Infinite, and whatever is immeasurable can appear to the mortal eye only as blue;
thus, a cloudless summer #sky is blue to us because the endless distances of space is interpreted by the physical eye as blue in color. The yellow represents the #earth.
Anything that is buried in the earth gathers a yellowish hue, and in #fire, earth (mud, silica) grows yellowish. Thus, Sri Narayana represents the infinite, immeasurable, all-pervading Reality (blue color) clothed in earth — earthy matter (yellow color), meaning Sri Narayana is the Infinite clothed in matter; He is the Infinite expressed through a #form.”
But what he showed her, a bhakta, was this: In 1966, Gurudev was in our #house at Chennai. During the talk, Gurudev suddenly got ill and was advised to #rest, and so he extended his stay for one week.
During this time, devotees would gather at their home in the evenings to either sing for him or have #spiritual discussions with him. On one such evening, Gurudev asked her to bring the #idol of Lord Krsna and place it next to him. Then, he asked her to bring her best sari and place it on the table on which the Lord’s idol was kept.
As the devotees waited for Gurudev to speak, she suddenly saw that the idol was moving. She looked closer to ensure she wasn’t dreaming, but there he was, this #jewel of Yadukula, flute in hand, #dancing away, as if to some ethereal #tune! Amma was wonderstruck.
She looked around to see if anyone else was seeing what she was seeing, but the devotees did not seem to have witnessed this visual prasada. She looked at Gurudev and saw him looking at her.
A few minutes later, Gurudev said, “Hmm… enough, enough…” and the dancing Lord Krsna stood still, as she sat stunned among the large group of #devotees gathered around.
However, in her heart and #soul, she was filled with an unshakeable devotion to Lord Krsna and was convinced that a great #Mahatma can infuse life even in an inert idol.
