Like bats among birds :

Suspicion clouds the mind. It creates rupture among friends. It loses friends. It is a defect not in the heart but in the brain. Suspicion is the mark of a mean spirit and a base soul. A noble man suspects none. Suspicion hampers business dealings, disposes kings and heads of states to tyranny, and husbands to jealousy and hatred. It poisons true friendship. Freedom from suspicion promotes happiness in man. Suspicion is an enemy of happiness. Ignorance is its mother. Attain knowledge, then suspicion will vanish. If suspicion enters your mind, confidence and love depart. Suspicious thoughts in your mind are like bats among birds. Swami Sivananda

Navaratri - Day 8

Image
Hari om. Ahimsa is a very important value in Hinduism; then why all of our Gods and Goddesses are endowed with so many weapons? Our scriptures say that the weapons are - to destroy demons, for the welfare of Devata-s and most importantly to protect the devotees!!! Today on the 8th day, Mother is worshipped as Mahagauri - one who shines in a beautiful golden colour! The seventh step/form of Devotion is Daasyam - worshipping Lord as His servant. The most importance characteristics of servant are loyalty & respect for the master! May we all serve the Lord as obedient servants, without ego & selfish desires!! Swami Chinmayananda

Your Self, Amazing Soul, Experience of God :

Image
Your attraction or craving can exist only as long as you think someone is ' other '. When you understand they are a part of you or your Self , then the attraction dies out. You then enjoy the whole world without a sense of craving. One of the hardest lessons in Life is to LET GO. Whether it is guilt, anger, love, loss etc. Change is never easy , you fight to hold on and you fight to let go. Believe in yourself because you are an Amazing Soul. God should not be a faith but an experience. Once you learn to drop your mind into Silence that is when one is able to feel God within. With regular practice of dropping thoughts and getting into silence we too can achieve this experience/ feeling. Swami Udit Chaithanya Sri Sabarimala Ayyappan Temple Keralam, Bharatham.

Rituals and Highest Truth :

Rituals are to be observed. But when one advances in spirituality, it is not necessary to observe them for long. The oyster that contains the precious pearl is in itself of little value, but it is essential for the growth of the pearl. The shell itself may prove to be of no use to the man who has secured the pearl. So ceremonies and rites may not be necessary for him who has attained the highest truth, namely, God. -Sri Ramakrishna

The Desire-Mind and the Soul :

The influence of the vital prana on the emotional mind overwhelms the ability to express pure, clear and undistorted emotional energy. The human being is thus dominated by the wash of conflicting emotional reactions, joy and sorrow, love and hate, anger, jealousy, as well as all kinds of hopes and dreams and aspirations. Because of the identification of the ego-personality with this array of emotions, the individual tends to treat this as an expression of his uniqueness, and of his “soul”. Sri Aurobindo observes that this surface reaction is not actually the true soul in man: “But the real soul, the real psychic entity which for the most part we see little of and only a small minority of mankind has developed, is an instrument of pure love, joy and the luminous reaching out to fusion and unity with God and our fellow-creatures. This psychic entity is covered up by the play of the mentalised Prana or desire-mind which we mistake for the soul; the emotional mind is unable to mirror ...

SOUL ( Jivatma ) :

Devotee : *There are six centres mentioned in the Yoga books; but the *jiva * is said to reside in the Heart. Is it not so? *Maharishi :* Yes. The *jiva *is said to remain in the Heart in deep sleep; and in the brain in the waking state. The Heart need not be taken to be the muscular cavity with four chambers which propels blood. There are indeed passages which support the view. There are others who take it to mean a set of ganglia or nerve centres about that region. Whichever view is correct does not matter to us. We are not concerned with anything less than ourselves. That we have certainly within us. There could be no doubts or discussions about that. source: Talk 29. Sri Ramana Maharishi

Thought :

Image
"A good thought is thrice blessed. First, it benefits the thinker by improving his mental body. Secondly, it benefits the person about whom it is entertained. Lastly, it benefits all mankind by improving the general mental atmosphere. An evil thought, on the contrary, is thrice cursed. Firstly, it harms the thinker by doing injury to his mental body. Secondly, it harms the person who is its object. Lastly, it harms all mankind by vitiating the whole mental atmosphere." ~ Swami Sivananda
