Attaining True Freedom - Swami Krishnananda

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Tuesday, March 16, 2021. 07:34. AM. (Spoken on January 24, 1976 at a conference on World Friendship.) --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- What I propose to do now is to think loudly so that you may listen to my thoughts, and if any one of you feels that there is some meaning in what I am saying, and it is going to be of some benefit or help to you in your life, I shall really regard myself as thrice blessed. I speak my own thoughts and feelings because one cannot speak honestly what one cannot think and feel in oneself, and what is not one’s honest conviction cannot carry weight and create an impression in the minds of people. I am like you; there is nothing special in me, and there is, therefore, nothing particular that I can say. But I can cooperate with the ways of thinking of ...

RELIGION AND SCIENCE : SRI SWAMI SIVANANDA.

Image
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Monday, March 15, 2021. 07 : 47. AM. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 1. INTRODUCTION : Some scientists, and some so-called educated persons, believe that science can explain everything and can solve the riddle of the universe and all problems of life. They also think that the scientific method is the only method of finding out the truth, and that the scientific training and discipline alone can very efficiently build the character of man. They have ignored ethical discipline, morality and religion altogether, and given religion an inferior position. One scientist came to me and said: "The Upanishads and the Brahma-Sutras have not been written scientifically. I am trying to give a scientific approach to this vital subject ." I laughed and said : "My dear scientist-friend! The Upanishads are revelations. Brahma-vidya is transcendental. T...

Let Us Be Hindus - Swami Chinmayananda

"Lord Shiva is said to have a third eye called the jnana caksu (eye of wisdom). With the help of this eye, Shiva gains an intuitive vision of the Truth, which is denied to the two eyes of an ordinary mortal.  This idea of the third eye is not to be taken literally to mean that a third fleshly organ exists. The intuitive #wisdom of Truth is born with perfect integration of the mind and the intellect, that is, when devotion for the Lord blends with subtle contemplation upon the transcendental Truth. ⠀ Devotion and contemplation are the two limbs which take one to the abode of Truth. When these two combine - that is, when, with an attitude of #devotion, a seeker uses intellectual discrimination to penetrate the mysteries of the Truth - a subjective apprehension - experience of the Reality arises in the seeker's bosom.   ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Saturday, March 13, 2021. 07:22. Practical Vedanta : Shantatmanandaji Maharaj (Sri Ramakrishna Mission)

Image
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------  Friday, March 12, 2021. 07:43. AM. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Sri Ramakrishna had a unique way of imparting spiritual instructions.   The following story told by him shows a very practical approach to religion. In a forest there lived a holy man who had many disciples.  One day he taught them to see Narayana (God) in all beings and hence have a reverential attitude towards everyone.  The disciples once went inside a forest to gather wood for sacrificial fire.  Suddenly, they heard a warning “get out of the way, a mad elephant is coming”.  All the disciples except one ran away and took shelter in a safe place.  But, one disciple reasoned that since the Guru had taught them to see Narayana i.e. God, in every being, the elephant is also God in another form and if so why should he run away from it.  He stoo...

Expectation & Desire - Hindrance to Progress - Swami Bhoomananda Tirtha

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Thursday, March 11, 2021. 07:12. AM. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Whenever a physical action is undertaken, it is very clear and implied that there is an objective before it. In fact what is an action? An action is a process during which, you begin from a point and reach the end point called the outcome or objective. It is like a line which necessarily connects two given points. So an action is itself designed with a view to produce an outcome. If the action is pursued to completion, the outcome will necessarily follow. Sometimes there can be factors that intercept the process of action. Then you may think about those factors, which are likely to intercept and try to safeguard against them. That is part of the action. To that extent everything is okay. Now, what is this further expectation? While doing an action, do you have to keep on saying, ...
